Job Purpose
The Staff Counsellor will provide essential psychological support and guidance to WFP Haiti staff, particularly those facing stressful and traumatic situations due to the challenging socio-economic conditions. This role involves offering individual and group counselling, managing cases, and referring staff to appropriate resources. The incumbent will also conduct field visits, deliver induction courses for new staff, and facilitate support sessions for teams. A key responsibility includes developing and delivering training programs on topics such as resilience, team building, and cross-cultural sensitivity to enhance staff well-being and morale. The Staff Counsellor will also identify and maintain relationships with local mental health professionals for referrals and crisis support, ensuring ethical standards are upheld throughout service provision.
Responsibilities
The Staff Counsellor provides essential psychological support services to World Food Programme (WFP) staff and, when necessary, their dependents. This role involves offering individual and group counselling, particularly during emergencies and after critical incidents, ensuring timely and sensitive interventions with appropriate follow-up. Responsibilities include conducting regular field visits and submitting reports, as well as delivering induction courses for new staff and facilitating support sessions for teams like the Hotline. A key function is developing and delivering training programs on topics such as team building, resilience, harassment, and cross-cultural sensitivity, aimed at enhancing morale, health, and team dynamics to promote overall staff wellbeing. The Counsellor also identifies and liaises with local mental health resources for referrals and crisis support, ensuring proper follow-up. Maintaining the highest ethical standards in psychological service provision is paramount. The role requires preparing monthly activity reports with statistical data and undertaking other assigned duties to support the unit's objectives and staff welfare.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience relevant to the field is required. Experience working in a hardship location or providing counselling services in difficult and insecure environments is an asset.
