Organizational Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes peace and development through volunteerism, encouraging participation from diverse backgrounds. In Latin America and the Caribbean, UNV aims to expand its talent pool, focusing on increasing access for underrepresented groups to UN volunteer opportunities. This initiative supports SDG 10 by reducing inequalities in access to information and opportunities, fostering inclusive participation across Brazil's diverse regions and communities.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNV's efforts to enhance inclusivity and talent acquisition in Brazil, a country marked by significant cultural, ethnic, social, and territorial diversity. Barriers to information access and digital literacy can hinder participation. The initiative aims to strengthen UNV's outreach by recruiting 8 Online Volunteers to assist individuals from underrepresented groups, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and quilombola communities, in navigating the UN Volunteer Platform (UVP). These volunteers will provide accessible, respectful guidance, contributing to greater equity and diversity within the UNV talent pool.
Responsibilities
Eight Online Volunteers will virtually assist individuals from underrepresented groups across Brazil in registering and completing profiles on the UN Volunteer Platform (UVP). Volunteers will receive initial training from UNV on the programme and platform functionalities. Key duties include conducting virtual orientation sessions (individual or group), clarifying registration steps with simple, accessible language, sharing official UNV materials, identifying recurring registration challenges, and reporting them to the UNV team. Volunteers will also prepare a final report detailing activities, number of individuals assisted, and identified challenges. The role requires adherence to strict guidelines regarding data privacy and avoiding unauthorized access to user accounts.
Work Experience
Required: Fluency in Portuguese and Spanish with excellent oral and written communication skills. Desirable experience includes volunteer work, digital inclusion, education, community mobilization, or public outreach and guidance. Skills
Key competencies include strong communication, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and respect for diversity. Proficiency with digital platforms, online forms, and virtual communication tools is necessary. Adaptability in communication for varying digital literacy levels, organization, autonomy, responsibility, teamwork, and commitment to confidentiality are also important. Expertise in digital and social media, training, capacity building, and writing/editing is beneficial.
