Organizational Context

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, dedicated to saving lives and building peace in emergencies. This position is based in Rome, Italy, within the Technology division's Digital Services branch. The incumbent will report to the Head of Engineering or Head of Beneficiary Management Products, contributing to WFP's digital transformation.

Job Purpose

The IT Solution Architect (Identity Management) will be instrumental in shaping and leading the beneficiary services agenda within WFP's Technology Division. This role involves managing a team to deliver IT solutions, providing expert recommendations on development and procurement, and conducting complex analyses to propose innovative solutions to business challenges. The incumbent will collaborate with various stakeholders, including enterprise architecture, operations, and product management, to ensure the successful design, development, and release of critical platforms like SCOPE. Key responsibilities include ensuring the technical quality, security, and performance of IT solutions, especially in challenging environments, and contributing to strategic planning and policy development for digital capabilities.

Responsibilities

The role involves comprehensive management of IT solutions throughout their lifecycle, from initial analysis and design to procurement, development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance and evolution. Key responsibilities include designing software architecture and data models, ensuring high technical quality in terms of functionality, user experience, performance, and adherence to WFP standards. This includes proactive support for integration with existing corporate platforms and continuous quality assurance, encompassing security controls, testing, monitoring, and backup mechanisms. The position requires setting up and maintaining development, testing, and production environments, and ensuring robust IT security monitoring. Collaboration is crucial for establishing and improving CI/CD infrastructure, contributing to delivery plans, timelines, and budgets. The role also entails reviewing and approving product backlog items, managing technical backlog items for solution robustness, and contributing to technical specifications and tender documentation. Developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation, defining decommissioning procedures, and managing test plan preparation are also essential. Furthermore, the role involves coordinating and guiding development teams, providing technical support and training to end-users, staying updated on WFP IT policies, cooperating with audits, and fostering partnerships within and outside WFP. Performing other related duties is also part of the responsibilities.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in IT. Alternatively, if an advanced degree is not held, eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in IT is necessary. Fluency in English is mandatory, along with intermediate knowledge of at least one other official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, or Portuguese).
