Business Innovation Senior Consultant

Organizational Context

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, dedicated to saving lives in emergencies and building pathways to peace and prosperity. WFP operates in a complex and demanding environment, requiring innovative approaches to resource management and operational efficiency. The Business Innovation Unit (BIU)/UN Advisory Alliance (UNAA) serves as WFP's internal management consulting arm, driving change and promoting innovation across the UN system.

Job Purpose

The Business Innovation Senior Consultant will provide high-level analytical and project management support to senior leadership within WFP and the broader UN system. This role is crucial for developing and implementing innovative strategies and operational models to enhance WFP's effectiveness in responding to unprecedented emergencies and increasing demands. The consultant will execute end-to-end business innovation projects, focusing on problem assessment, data analysis, operational model design, and change management. Key responsibilities include advising on organizational initiatives, supporting UN Reform efforts through inter-agency collaboration and data-driven analysis, and contributing to knowledge management. The objective is to drive efficiency, optimize processes, and ensure that WFP can effectively channel resources to the people it serves, ultimately contributing to its mission of saving lives and changing lives.

Responsibilities

The Business Innovation Unit (BIU)/UN Advisory Alliance (UNAA) within the World Food Programme (WFP) functions as an internal management consulting arm, established to drive change and foster innovation. This unit comprises professionals with expertise in management consulting and UN operations. The primary responsibility of a Business Innovation Senior Consultant is to execute projects that address WFP's evolving needs, particularly in response to an unprecedented level of emergencies. This involves assessing problems, analyzing data, designing operational models, and developing implementation plans. The consultant will advise senior leadership on prioritizing key organizational initiatives and provide analytical and project management support to drive implementation forward. A significant aspect of the role may involve supporting UN Reform initiatives, such as the Business Operations Strategy and Common Back Office, by engaging with stakeholders, performing data analyses for work packages like entity mergers, and contributing to communication efforts. The consultant will also contribute to knowledge management and best practice sharing within the BIU/UNAA. This role requires strong analytical, quantitative, and qualitative skills, proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, experience with optimization processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and cultures under tight deadlines.

Work Experience

Requires approximately 4 years of progressive national and/or international experience in a business or international relations role. A minimum of 4 years of experience in management consulting or innovative finance is mandatory. Additional work experience is considered a plus.
