Job Purpose
The Construction Engineer, reporting to the Supply & Logistics Manager, is responsible for coordinating construction activities within a large country office. This role involves the comprehensive management of construction projects, encompassing planning, supporting procurement processes, and overseeing on-site construction works. The engineer will collaborate closely with UNICEF Programme/Operations teams to ensure construction interventions align with programmatic needs and contribute to achieving results for children. Additionally, the position requires providing technical and advisory support to government counterparts and partners on construction project management, ensuring projects are delivered effectively and efficiently while adhering to UNICEF standards and objectives for child welfare.
Responsibilities
The Construction Engineer will be accountable for the preparation of the annual construction workplan, ensuring it aligns with UNICEF's strategic objectives and programmatic needs. A key responsibility is close collaboration with UNICEF Programme teams and coordination with Government counterparts to facilitate smooth project execution and foster strong partnerships. The role involves the preparation of essential design and technical documents, ensuring all construction plans meet required standards and specifications. Significant support will be provided to the procurement process for construction-related goods and services, ensuring transparency and efficiency. Furthermore, the engineer will be responsible for the diligent monitoring of construction projects on site, ensuring quality control, adherence to timelines, and budget management. This includes identifying and mitigating risks, resolving technical challenges, and reporting on project progress. The role also entails providing technical guidance and capacity building to local partners and government agencies involved in construction projects, promoting sustainable practices and knowledge transfer.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience is required, encompassing project management, site supervision, and quality assurance at national and/or international levels. Understanding of development and humanitarian work is also essential.
