Job Purpose
The Digital Impact Specialist (Data Engineer) will contribute to the design, implementation, and delivery of UNICEF’s Data Warehouse migration project, transitioning from legacy analytical platforms to a modern lakehouse and analytics architecture. This role involves supporting migration planning and execution, designing and validating target architectures, conducting parallel runs and business testing, and developing data products and consumption layers. The incumbent will ensure that migrated solutions maintain data integrity, performance, and reporting continuity, enabling UNICEF to become a more data-enabled and AI-ready organization. This position is crucial for establishing the foundations to transform UNICEF into a more efficient, data-informed entity, leveraging technology to improve decision-making, measure results, address risks, and serve children more effectively globally.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the planning and execution of the Data Warehouse migration project, ensuring a smooth transition to a modern lakehouse and analytics architecture. Support the design and validation of target data architectures, ensuring they meet UNICEF's strategic objectives and technical requirements. Participate in parallel runs and business testing activities to validate the accuracy and completeness of migrated data and the functionality of new systems. Develop and implement data products and consumption layers that enable efficient data access and utilization for reporting and analytics. Ensure the preservation of data integrity, performance, and reporting continuity throughout the migration process. Collaborate with stakeholders, including ICT teams, data analysts, and business users, to gather requirements and ensure the delivered solutions meet their needs. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during the migration and implementation phases. Contribute to the development of documentation for data pipelines, architectures, and processes. Support the adoption of AI and advanced analytics capabilities by ensuring robust data foundations are in place. Assist in the continuous improvement of data management practices and technologies within the Digital Foundations team.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a related IT role is required. Experience with cloud-based data platforms and ETL/ELT processes is essential. Experience in migration projects is an asset.
