Organizational Context
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Bangkok seeks an intern to support its mission of protecting human rights globally. This full-time, six-month in-person internship is based in the SEARO office, contributing to regional human rights initiatives and reporting to an assigned manager.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in human rights work within the UN Secretariat's OHCHR. The intern will support the organization's mandate to protect and promote human rights for all. Responsibilities will vary based on the intern's background, potentially focusing on areas like migration, climate change, or communication. The role involves monitoring human rights trends, conducting research, drafting reports, assisting with event organization, and engaging with UN human rights mechanisms. This position offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the realization of human rights and gain exposure to international human rights practices.
Responsibilities
The intern will support OHCHR's mission by monitoring and analyzing human rights developments and trends in South-East Asia. Key duties include researching and drafting internal and external notes and reports, and preparing daily news updates on the regional human rights situation. The intern will also assist with SEARO's engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, such as Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies. Additionally, responsibilities involve supporting the organization of workshops and seminars, developing information resources, updating website content, and taking notes in meetings and conferences as requested by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field is essential. The internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in human rights work.
Skills
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable. Experience in designing surveys and polls is also desirable.
