Investment Officer (Fixed Income-Credit)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) Office of Investment Management (OIM) manages a global investment portfolio of approximately $100+ billion across multiple asset classes. OIM actively manages about 85% of this portfolio in-house. This Investment Officer role is situated within the Fixed Income Team in New York, reporting to the Senior Investment Officer for Credit.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Senior Investment Officer (SIO) for Credit in managing corporate and government-related bond portfolios within the UNJSPF. The primary purpose is to conduct fundamental credit research, monitor portfolio holdings, and ensure compliance with investment policies to achieve optimal returns while managing risk. The incumbent will contribute to performance objectives, integrate Responsible Investment principles, and analyze various financial instruments and market data. This position plays a key part in the overall investment strategy and performance of the UNJSPF's fixed income assets, ensuring alignment with the Fund's criteria for safety, profitability, liquidity, and convertibility.
Responsibilities
The Investment Officer will conduct fundamental credit research on corporate and government-related bonds, contributing to performance objectives and outperforming benchmarks. This includes monitoring portfolio holdings, performing security analysis, and adhering to risk control parameters. The role involves integrating Principles of Responsible Investments into analysis and monitoring both internal and external holdings. The incumbent will perform thorough investment research, including fundamental credit analysis of issuers, building financial models, and preparing credit research reports and investment memos. They will participate in management calls, analyze ETFs, interest rates, capital structures, and ESG data, and evaluate research providers and external managers. The role also involves making specific investment recommendations based on the Fund's criteria and presenting them to management, as well as assisting in reporting to senior leadership and governing bodies.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience analyzing corporate securities, including ESG considerations, is required. Experience in US fixed income credit markets is also mandatory. Desirable experience includes trading US corporate bond exposures at a large pension fund, investment manager, or insurance company, as well as quantitative portfolio modeling and analysis of external managers.
