Organizational Context

This role is within the Business Processes and Systems Support Section (BPSSS) of the Capacity Development Operational Training Service (CDOTS), Department of Operational Support (DOS). DOS provides end-to-end operational support across the UN Secretariat. CDOTS delivers operational training, including on enterprise resource management systems and business process management. BPSSS develops and implements processes, structures, and training for enterprise systems like Umoja and Inspira.

Job Purpose

The Training Officer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the Umoja training program and related projects. This involves analyzing training plans to align with organizational goals, developing e-learning content in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and monitoring project delivery. The role also includes identifying staff development needs through surveys, coordinating training programs for capacity building, and evaluating the effectiveness of training solutions. The officer will conduct workshops, promote e-learning and knowledge management platforms, and lead the LMS team to enhance system performance and provide advisory services on blended learning solutions. Outreach activities, budget input, and performance reporting are also key functions.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, implement, and evaluate the Umoja training program and projects in coordination with SMEs and stakeholders. Analyze and execute Umoja training plans to ensure alignment with organizational goals and mandates. Develop e-learning content and instructional materials. Monitor training project delivery, review documents, and ensure follow-up actions. Identify and analyze staff development needs through surveys and data collection, providing training recommendations. Coordinate training projects for capacity development and sustained end-user performance. Evaluate training solutions and recommend enhancements. Conduct training workshops and Training of Trainers events. Promote e-Learning and knowledge management platforms. Lead the LMS team, advising on capabilities, emerging technologies, and best practices for blended learning. Conduct outreach activities and prepare communication materials. Supervise assigned staff, consultants, and contractors. Provide input for the Umoja training budget and prepare performance reports.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressive experience in learning management projects, capacity development, and training is required. Experience in designing blended training programs with e-learning components, developing/delivering ERP training, and administering a Learning Management System (LMS) is also required. Experience with enterprise resource planning software like Umoja and talent management software like Inspira is desirable.
