Organizational Context

This Programme Management Officer position is within the Office of the Director and Deputy to the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs at the UN Secretariat. The role reports to the Director, providing support through the Senior Political Affairs Officer of the Policy Coordination and Change Management Unit.

Job Purpose

The Programme Management Officer will be responsible for reviewing and ensuring the viability of project documents, including donor and partner agreements. This role involves active participation in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes and projects. Key duties include monitoring progress, identifying issues, proposing solutions, and liaising with relevant parties. The officer will also conduct research, analyze information from diverse sources, assist in policy development, and prepare various written outputs. Additionally, the role supports consultative meetings, conducts programmatic visits, and manages budget and funding activities, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and enabling data-driven decision-making through analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include reviewing project documents, donor agreements, and partner agreements, ensuring the viability of logical frameworks and program delivery. The role involves participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and projects, monitoring progress, identifying issues, and proposing corrective actions. The officer will conduct research, analyze diverse information, and assist in policy development. Responsibilities also encompass designing data collection tools, analyzing survey responses, and preparing written outputs such as background papers and reports. Substantive support for meetings and programmatic visits to assess project results are required. Furthermore, the role involves coordinating budget and funding activities, preparing related documents, and managing program budget implementation. Data analysis for trends and insights, using visualization methods for planning and reporting, is also a core duty.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in project or programme management, administration, or a related area is required. Experience managing government-funded grants, conducting business operations in UMOJA or similar ERP platforms, and in data analytics and reporting are each required for a minimum of two years. Experience within the UN Headquarters or a similar international organization is desirable.
