Organizational Context
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in South-East Asia (SEARO) works to protect human rights for all. This internship is based in the Bangkok office and reports to a manager within SEARO, contributing to the broader mission of empowering people and assisting those upholding rights.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the OHCHR's mission to protect and promote human rights. The intern will contribute by monitoring and analyzing regional human rights developments, researching and drafting reports, and assisting with communication and outreach efforts. The role involves engaging with UN human rights mechanisms, supporting event organization, and maintaining information resources. The purpose is to provide practical experience in human rights work while assisting the office in its mandate to ensure the implementation of human rights for all people in South-East Asia.
Responsibilities
The intern will monitor and analyze human rights developments and trends in South-East Asia, preparing daily news updates. Responsibilities include researching and drafting internal and external notes and reports. The intern will support SEARO's engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, such as Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the organization of workshops and seminars, developing information resources, and updating website content. The intern will also participate in meetings, take notes, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field and demonstrated ability to conduct research and draft reports are expected.

Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts (desirable). Ability to design surveys and polls (desirable). Fluency in spoken and written English. Research and analytical skills. Communication skills.
