Organizational Context
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in South-East Asia (SEARO) works to protect human rights for all. This internship is based in the Bangkok office and reports to a manager within SEARO, contributing to the broader mission of empowering people and assisting those upholding rights.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the OHCHR's mission to protect and promote human rights. The intern will contribute by monitoring and analyzing regional human rights developments, researching and drafting reports, and assisting with communication and public information efforts. The role also involves supporting engagement with UN human rights mechanisms and aiding in the organization of workshops and seminars, thereby enhancing the office's capacity to implement its mandate effectively and contribute to the realization of human rights across South-East Asia.
Responsibilities
Monitor and analyze human rights developments and trends in South-East Asia. Research and draft internal and external notes and reports, including daily news updates on the regional human rights situation. Support OHCHR's engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, such as Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies. Assist in organizing workshops and seminars, developing information resources, and updating website content. Participate in meetings and conferences, take notes, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this UN Internship Programme. However, a relevant academic background in a field closely related to human rights is necessary. Applicants must meet the specified educational criteria.
Skills
Ability to draft news articles and social media posts (desirable). Ability to design surveys and polls (desirable). Fluency in spoken and written English.
