Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Washington D.C. supports the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). This role is within the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion (MPI), specifically the Resettlement and Movement Management Division (RMM). The TLP Repayment Associate operates under the direct supervision of the Senior TLP Associate and overall supervision of the Head of USRAP TLP.
Job Purpose
The TLP Repayment Associate's primary purpose is to manage the Travel Loan Program (TLP) for participants within the USRAP. This involves contacting migrants with TLP accounts to address outstanding debts or confirm full loan repayment. The role ensures adherence to IOM principles, federal, state, and regulatory guidelines. By facilitating communication and negotiation for debt settlement, the associate contributes to the financial sustainability of the program and supports the overall mission of IOM in assisting migrants through the resettlement process.
Responsibilities
Initiate outreach to participants with overdue accounts, discussing repayment options while adhering to legal guidelines. Review and accurately record data in the system, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Respond to participant inquiries regarding accounts via phone or email. Employ skip tracing techniques to locate individuals and negotiate payment arrangements. Prepare and distribute repayment letters. Provide support to participants with TLP WebPortal inquiries and registration. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all documentation, adhering to SOPs, IOM Standards of Conduct, and data protection rules. Uphold protection mainstreaming standards and report any safeguarding concerns or non-compliance.
Work Experience
Required experience includes office management, accounting, or bookkeeping. Experience in billing and collections is advantageous. Direct experience with the USRAP Travel Loan Program is a significant advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel). Strong verbal communication and persuasion skills. Ability to manage work pressure with resilience. Familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is highly advantageous. Motivation and interest in humanitarian dynamics.
