Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Italy, under the Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, is implementing the ALT Caporalato T.R.E. project. This role supports outreach to migrants and aims to overcome linguistic barriers during inspections and information sessions, contributing to the fight against labour exploitation.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant (Cultural Mediation) will provide essential clerical and language support for the ALT Caporalato T.R.E. project. This role is crucial for facilitating communication and outreach to migrants, specifically by overcoming linguistic barriers during labour inspections and information sessions. The incumbent will assist project staff in disseminating information about national laws and administrative procedures related to labour exploitation and trafficking, and contribute to awareness-raising activities. The primary goal is to support the project's objective of combating labour exploitation and protecting vulnerable migrant workers through effective communication and mediation.
Responsibilities
Provide cultural mediation support during labour inspections and information sessions to combat migrant labour exploitation. Assist project staff by offering general information on national laws and administrative procedures concerning recruitment, irregular work, labour exploitation, and trafficking. Contribute to awareness-raising activities focused on protection mechanisms for victims of labour exploitation and trafficking. Accompany inspection taskforces to various sites, facilitating communication with migrants. Offer language support during outreach activities, inspections, and meetings, ensuring impartiality. Perform additional clerical duties as assigned to support project activities.
Work Experience
Experience in clerical or administrative support functions (e.g., filing, record-keeping, data entry). Experience in cultural mediation, particularly with migrants or vulnerable groups, is advantageous. Previous support experience with community initiatives, international organizations, NGOs, or EU Agencies is a plus.
Skills
Cultural mediation skills (Italian/Bengali), organizational skills for clerical tasks, strong interpersonal skills for diverse communication, and a valid driving license.
