Job Purpose

The Technical Manager (Strategy) provides critical analytic and technical support for Unitaid's strategy implementation, focusing on medicines, diagnostics, and preventive health products for HIV and related areas. This role involves identifying and validating new access strategies, managing proposal selection processes, and conducting analyses to inform strategic opportunities and project design. The position contributes to Unitaid's mission by ensuring efficient utilization of resources and supporting market-based interventions to increase access to essential healthcare products in resource-limited settings.

Responsibilities

Provide analytic and technical support for Unitaid's strategy implementation, particularly for HIV-related health products. Identify, develop, and validate new approaches for health product access in low- and middle-income countries. Manage proposal selection, including drafting calls for proposals and leading cross-functional assessments. Design and manage analyses to inform opportunities, proposal reviews, and project design, coordinating internal and external resources. Offer strategic and technical expertise to project teams during grant development and implementation. Collaborate with Results colleagues on impact assessments and value for money. Support Strategic Sourcing & Supply with data on manufacturers and commodities. Develop market-based interventions and support new innovations. Conduct comprehensive market analysis, including product pipeline reviews, demand and supply analysis, and intellectual property assessments. Draft and deliver reports and presentations for Unitaid's governance bodies. Disseminate findings and represent Unitaid at external meetings and conferences. Support organizational communications and resource mobilization efforts.

Work Experience

Essential: Minimum 7 years of experience in health strategies with a focus on healthcare tools (therapeutics, diagnostics, preventive tools). Minimum 3 years of experience analyzing health products for HIV and related coinfections in resource-limited settings, including market analysis, competitive intelligence, and forecasting. Demonstrated experience in designing and applying market-based interventions for health products in low- or lower-middle-income countries. Proven international experience with established networks in global health. Desirable: Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or diagnostics industry, including market access, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, and intellectual property.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team to achieve high-impact results. Strong interpersonal skills, tact, discretion, and mature judgment. Strong knowledge of global health commodities and established networks of key stakeholders. Understanding of Unitaid's mission, strategy, and projects. Familiarity with global pharmaceutical/diagnostics policies and public health market issues.
