EPI Officer
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) in Sudan, specifically within the WHO Representative's Office, seeks an EPI Officer. This role is crucial for supporting the Ministry of Health's Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) by strengthening planning, coordination, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation, with a focus on GAVI-supported activities.
Job Purpose
The EPI Officer's primary purpose is to bolster the Ministry of Health's Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) in Sudan. This involves enhancing the program's capabilities in planning, coordination, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation. A key focus will be on ensuring the effective follow-up of GAVI-supported activities and meeting associated requirements. The role contributes to improving immunization coverage and addressing bottlenecks to ensure evidence-based national planning and successful implementation of EPI strategies.
Responsibilities
The EPI Officer will conduct periodic analyses of immunization coverage by locality to identify bottlenecks and barriers, supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH) in developing evidence-based national plans. Responsibilities include ensuring the timely compilation of state and partner plans into a unified EPI annual plan, aligned with the comprehensive Multi-Year Plan (cMYP). The role involves supporting the MoH in revitalizing EPI coordination bodies and preparing for GAVI coordination calls. Additionally, the officer will ensure the accuracy of EPI data and reporting at all levels and follow up with the MoH on incorporating feedback from states into monthly reports and their subsequent implementation.
Work Experience
Essential: At least one year of experience in Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) programs. Desirable: Experience within a UN or NGO setting is considered an asset.
Skills
Broad knowledge of EPI strategies, policies, and interventions. Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a changing environment. Proven initiative and recommendation-making skills. Demonstrated ability to assess and analyze data. Expert knowledge of English and Arabic is essential.
