Job Purpose

The Programme Policy Officer, Climate Resilience will support the design, management, and delivery of WFP's climate resilience programs in Tanzania. This role focuses on project management, technical guidance, coordination, and capacity building for initiatives such as Food Assistance for Assets, natural resource management, and climate change adaptation. The officer will contribute to proposal development, ensure gender and nutrition perspectives are integrated, and foster strategic partnerships with government, development partners, and communities. The objective is to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable populations to climate shocks and environmental degradation, ensuring effective and timely program implementation and reporting.

Responsibilities

The Programme Policy Officer, Climate Resilience role involves supporting the design, management, and execution of climate resilience programs. Key responsibilities include project monitoring and implementation of integrated resilience activities, conducting field visits, and reviewing progress towards objectives. The officer will also develop proposals for the climate resilience portfolio, provide technical expertise in areas like natural resource management and regenerative agriculture, and contribute to accurate program reporting. Coordination of climate resilience initiatives across the country office, with cooperating partners, and development partners is crucial. The role requires representing WFP in public forums, maintaining relationships with government and other organizations, and ensuring gender and nutrition perspectives are integrated into programming. Additionally, the officer will support capacity building for WFP staff, partners, and government on climate resilience concepts and approaches, and produce knowledge products such as case studies and lessons learned. The position also involves identifying and developing strategic partnerships to enhance program effectiveness and reach.

Work Experience

Requires five or more years of progressive professional experience in climate mitigation/adaptation, natural resources management, agriculture, or international development. Field experience in food security, sustainable development, rural livelihoods, poverty reduction, asset creation, or climate change programs is also necessary.
