The ShareTheMeal app, a key initiative, aims to grow individual giving and enhance user engagement to support WFP's mission.

Job Purpose

As the senior Android developer for the ShareTheMeal app, this role is pivotal in executing the mobile technology strategy to support ambitious user growth from 1.9 million to over 10 million. The specialist will architect and implement scalable, secure Android solutions using modern technologies like Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, ensuring exceptional user experience and operational efficiency. This includes owning the Android application architecture, establishing robust testing strategies, managing CI/CD pipelines, and leading incident response. The role also involves mentoring junior engineers, driving technical initiatives, and collaborating with product teams to translate requirements into effective technical solutions, ultimately contributing to the app's role in raising funds and awareness for WFP's zero hunger mission.

Responsibilities

The Mobile Engineer Specialist (Android) will play a crucial role in supporting and executing the mobile technology strategy for the ShareTheMeal app. This involves architecting and implementing secure, scalable Android solutions using modern technologies like Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Coroutines. The specialist will own the Android application architecture, ensuring its performance, maintainability, and adherence to best practices. Key responsibilities include leading code reviews, establishing coding standards, and driving technical decisions for team alignment. They will also establish comprehensive testing strategies, maintain high test coverage, and own CI/CD pipelines for efficient release processes. Monitoring production health, leading incident response, and conducting root cause analysis are also vital. Furthermore, the role involves mentoring junior engineers, leading technical initiatives, and championing engineering best practices to enhance team velocity and code quality. Collaboration with engineering leadership to shape the mobile tech strategy and roadmap, and partnering with the Product team to translate requirements into robust technical solutions are essential. Identifying and driving innovation opportunities to improve system quality and delivery speed will also be a key focus. The ultimate goal is to enable the app to scale significantly while maintaining an exceptional user experience and operational efficiency, impacting substantial annual revenue.

Work Experience

Requires at least 4 years of experience in developing and designing native Android applications that serve thousands of active users. Proficiency in Kotlin, modern Android development patterns (MVVM, MVP, Clean Architecture), Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, and Coroutines is essential. Experience with testing frameworks (JUnit, Maestro), CI/CD pipelines, Google Play submission, and performance optimization is also necessary.
