Job Purpose
The Assistant Logistics (Heavy Truck Convoy Leader) will be responsible for organizing, planning, and supervising the safe and efficient transportation of food and non-food items across Haiti. Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and supervise heavy truck convoys for the World Food Programme (WFP), ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of cargo. This involves providing leadership and guidance to truck drivers, overseeing their adherence to job responsibilities, and managing all aspects of convoy operations. Key duties include maintaining constant communication with the Fleet Manager via HF, VHF, and Thuraya radios, reporting on convoy progress and position hourly. The role requires proactive management of safety issues, making critical decisions to ensure secure passage, and handling vehicle breakdowns in a safe and timely manner. Additionally, the position entails ensuring sufficient funds for cargo unloading, conducting daily vehicle inspections for mechanical soundness, and maintaining the cleanliness and good working order of all assigned trucks. Accurate and timely completion of truck logbooks, timely refueling within WFP-established parameters, and ensuring cargo integrity from loading to final destination are crucial. The leader is accountable for all trucks, tools, and equipment, ensuring they are well-maintained and that trucks are loaded within established payload limits, with cargo distributed evenly for safety. They must also ensure drivers operate vehicles safely and responsibly, assist with maintenance when trucks are at the garage, and immediately report any accidents. The role also involves ensuring trucks only travel to authorized destinations with authorized goods, and performing driver duties in emergencies. Any other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor are also part of the responsibilities.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of professional experience in the field of heavy goods vehicle fleet transportation.
