Job Purpose
The Logistics Assistant (Heavy Truck Convoy Leader) will be responsible for organizing, planning, and supervising heavy truck convoys transporting food and non-food items across Haiti. This role involves leading and advising truck drivers, ensuring adherence to WFP procedures, and managing all aspects of convoy operations. The incumbent will oversee communication, safety, and security of the convoy, making critical decisions in emergency situations and ensuring the safe and timely delivery of cargo. Responsibilities include vehicle inspections, maintenance oversight, accurate record-keeping, fuel management, and ensuring cargo integrity from loading to final destination, all while maintaining strict safety standards and efficient resource utilization.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and manage heavy truck convoys for the World Food Programme (WFP). This involves providing leadership and guidance to truck drivers, ensuring they adhere to their job descriptions and drive safely and responsibly. The role requires meticulous attention to logistical details, including ensuring sufficient funds for cargo unloading, daily vehicle inspections for mechanical soundness, and maintaining the cleanliness and good working order of all assigned trucks. Effective communication is crucial, utilizing HF, VHF radio, and Thuraya systems to provide hourly progress and position updates to the Fleet Manager. The individual must manage all safety-related issues, making sound decisions to ensure the convoy's secure passage and addressing breakdowns efficiently and safely. Responsibilities extend to ensuring accurate daily logbook completion, timely refueling within WFP parameters, and secure, damage-free transportation of cargo. Furthermore, the role involves overseeing the proper loading of trucks according to established payload limits, ensuring cargo is evenly distributed for safety. The convoy leader is accountable for all assigned trucks and equipment, reporting any accidents immediately and ensuring trucks only travel to authorized destinations with authorized cargo, unless otherwise directed by the Fleet Manager. In emergencies, they may perform driver duties. Any other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor are also part of the role.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of professional experience in the field of heavy-duty truck fleet transportation.
