Job Purpose
The Workshop Associate (Chef Mecanicien) will directly report to the National Logistics Manager for WFP's vehicle repair workshops in Haiti. This role is crucial for coordinating and overseeing the maintenance and repair of WFP's light vehicles, trucks, and generators across the country. The incumbent will provide technical leadership and functional guidance to all mechanics within the country office and sub-offices. Key responsibilities include planning repair activities, diagnosing vehicle issues, managing spare parts inventory, ensuring adherence to technical procedures, and supervising workshop staff. The position also involves training on the Fleet Management System (FMS) and generating regular reports on workshop operations, contributing to the efficient functioning of WFP's logistical support in Haiti.
Responsibilities
The Workshop Associate (Chief Mechanic) is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the maintenance and repair of WFP vehicles and generators across Haiti. This includes planning activities, organizing repair work, and assigning tasks to personnel in various workshops. The role involves receiving vehicles, diagnosing issues, and defining necessary repairs. Key responsibilities include monitoring and scheduling maintenance in sub-offices, providing support and training on the Fleet Management System (FMS) to administrative assistants, and supervising its use in Port-au-Prince and sub-offices. The associate also manages spare parts stores, coordinates technical staff travel for missions, and ensures vehicle safety features are functional. They verify completed repair work, confirm vehicle testing before user handover, and maintain workshop cleanliness and safety standards. Additionally, the role guarantees proper tool usage and management, adherence to technical procedures, and accurate FMS record-keeping for work orders. Stock management of spare parts and lubricants, inventory coordination, and establishing monthly maintenance programs are crucial. The associate manages supervised personnel, produces daily, weekly, monthly, and annual workshop reports, and provides data for billing humanitarian partners. They also prepare petty cash requests, coordinate spare parts requests from sub-offices, and plan mechanics' leave. Finally, they execute other fleet and garage-related tasks as assigned by their supervisor.
Work Experience
Requires at least 6 years of progressively responsible experience as a supervisor of automotive repair mechanics.
