Job Purpose
The Mechanic Assistant will support the Gonaïves sub-office operations by assisting in the repair and maintenance of light vehicles, trucks, and generators. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliable functioning of WFP's fleet, which is essential for delivering humanitarian assistance in the Artibonite department. The incumbent will perform routine maintenance, diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures, and manage spare parts inventory. This position contributes directly to the operational efficiency and effectiveness of WFP's mission in Haiti by keeping vital transportation and power equipment in optimal working condition.
Responsibilities
The Automobile Mechanic (Electro) will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of light vehicles, trucks, and generators essential for the World Food Programme's (WFP) operations in Gonaïves, Haiti. This role involves performing major repairs on various vehicle systems, including gearboxes, engines, suspensions, brakes, and air conditioning, as well as diagnosing and rectifying mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults. The mechanic will also be tasked with planning and executing routine maintenance for all mechanical and hydraulic systems, disassembling and reassembling defective components according to safety and technological procedures, and making decisions on part restoration or replacement. Regular vehicle inspections, preparation of repair intervention plans, and managing spare parts inventory are key duties. This includes receiving and issuing parts, maintaining accurate stock records, preparing parts requests, and ensuring the cleanliness and orderliness of workshops and storage areas. The position requires diligent record-keeping, including daily garage reports and service documents for data entry, and managing used parts for return. The role supports the implementation of all garage and fleet activities within the Artibonite department, ensuring the operational readiness of WFP's vehicle fleet.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of progressive experience in automotive mechanics and electrical work.
