Organizational Context
WFP re-established its Caribbean presence in Barbados in 2018, with the Multi-Country Office (MCO) supporting 22 countries. The office focuses on capacity strengthening in areas like vulnerability analysis, supply chain management, social protection, food systems, and climate risk financing. In crises, WFP collaborates with partners to deliver essential assistance, including food, cash, or emergency logistics.
Job Purpose
The Supply Chain Associate (Capacity Strengthening) will coordinate and support the implementation of regional supply chain projects and activities. This role is crucial for enabling the effective and timely delivery of project outcomes and operational objectives across the Caribbean. The associate will contribute to improving supply chain efficiency and effectiveness by analyzing contexts, identifying challenges, and developing practical solutions. They will assist in implementing new initiatives and tools, fostering collaboration with diverse stakeholders, and promoting knowledge sharing. The position also involves monitoring activities and resources, ensuring adherence to policies, and supporting accurate reporting to enhance overall supply chain readiness and performance.
Responsibilities
The role involves supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of supply chain capacity strengthening initiatives in collaboration with various partners, including national authorities and organizations like CDEMA. A key responsibility is analyzing country and regional supply chain contexts to identify operational challenges and propose practical solutions for improved efficiency and effectiveness. The position also requires assisting in the rollout of new supply chain tools and approaches, ensuring coordination with ongoing activities and stakeholders. Contributing to the identification and sharing of best practices from diverse sources, such as humanitarian, development, academic, and private sectors, is crucial. Furthermore, the role entails monitoring activities, budgets, and resources to ensure efficient utilization and timely delivery of outputs. Collaboration with internal and external supply chain functions, including government entities, UN agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners, is essential for coordinated operations. Adherence to supply chain policies, procedures, and controls, focusing on quality, risk mitigation, loss prevention, and cost efficiency, is also a core duty. Accurate and timely reporting on supply chain activities, including data consolidation and analysis, is required. The role also supports preparedness actions through risk analysis, contingency planning, and monitoring supply chain readiness. Finally, the incumbent may be required to support emergency response activities, including potential deployments to affected countries and working beyond regular hours during crises.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of six years of relevant experience in areas such as supply chain, logistics, capacity strengthening, or project coordination. Experience in planning, coordinating, and implementing supply chain capacity-strengthening initiatives, analyzing supply chain systems, documenting best practices, working with multiple stakeholders, and data analysis/reporting is also desired.
