The Climate Promise website disseminates communications content related to climate change and climate action.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UNDP Climate Hub by translating essential content from the Climate Promise website into French. The goal is to increase the accessibility of climate change and climate action information for French-speaking audiences. The Online Volunteer will translate various content types, including explainers, country pages with updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and social media assets for major campaigns. This contribution is vital for expanding the reach and impact of UNDP's climate initiatives and ensuring that critical information is available to a broader audience, aligning with the aspiration to maximize French content on the platform.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will translate select content from the Climate Promise website from English to French. Specific duties include translating explainers and other editorial content, updating country pages with new NDC information, and translating social media assets for major campaigns as needed. The role also involves handling ad hoc translation requests for site labels, headlines, and menu items. A key responsibility is ensuring all translations align with UN and UNDP guides for French translations, maintaining consistency with institutional branding, communication guidelines, and terminology. This requires strong attention to detail and stylistic consistency.
Work Experience
Prior experience translating content related to development, humanitarian efforts, environmental issues, or climate action is required. A strong understanding of climate change and climate action is also necessary. Familiarity with UNDP editorial and publication standards, including terminology, structure, and formatting, is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in written translation from English to French. Strong understanding of climate change and climate action concepts. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Ability to maintain stylistic consistency and adhere to institutional branding and communication guidelines. Experience translating development, humanitarian, or environmental content is required. Familiarity with UN and UNDP translation standards is desirable.
