Organizational Context

Young People We Care (YPWC) is a youth-led organization founded in 2005, headquartered in Ghana with satellite offices in the UK and Canada. Operating with young people aged 10-35 and adult allies, YPWC focuses on youth and development issues globally, including access to education. Its mission is to educate youth on global issues, inspire action, encourage participation, build partnerships, and provide resources for effective action, aiming to give a 'youthful voice' in global policy.

Job Purpose

This role supports YPWC's objective to empower young people by providing accessible information on scholarships. Many youth struggle with identifying opportunities, understanding requirements, and preparing applications. The purpose of this assignment is to create engaging, easy-to-understand video content that explains scholarship opportunities, eligibility criteria, application processes, and strategies for successful applications. These videos will be shared on YPWC's website and social media, and potentially presented at youth events, thereby bridging the information gap and facilitating access to higher education for young people worldwide.

Responsibilities

As an Online Volunteer, you will research and produce short, youth-friendly videos (3-5 minutes) explaining specific scholarship opportunities. This involves selecting a scholarship, researching its eligibility, benefits, application requirements, and selection criteria using official sources, and verifying information. You will create a brief research summary, a video script or storyboard, and the final video using visual techniques like slides, graphics, or animation. Additionally, you will provide a short video description with official links. YPWC will coordinate scholarship selections to ensure diversity and provide content guidelines and branding materials. Volunteers will work independently to meet deadlines and incorporate feedback.

Work Experience

Applicants should possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English, good research abilities to verify information from reliable sources, and the capacity to explain complex information clearly. Basic skills or a strong interest in video production, digital storytelling, or content creation are necessary. The ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and incorporate feedback is crucial. Previous experience with scholarship applications or awards is advantageous.

Skills

Key skills include strong communication (written and verbal), research and information verification, clear explanation of complex topics, video production/digital storytelling/content creation (basic skills or strong interest), digital and social media proficiency, and an interest in education and youth development. The ability to work independently and meet deadlines is also important.
