Organizational Context

Youth Co:Lab, co-created by UNDP and Citi Foundation, aims to empower youth in the Asia-Pacific region to accelerate SDG implementation through leadership, social innovation, and entrepreneurship. Despite a large youth population, significant barriers to decent work and sustainable livelihoods persist. UNDP supports inclusive employment through partnerships and innovation, recognizing the critical role of research and evidence in identifying effective policies and approaches for youth economic empowerment.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNDP's youth employment and economic empowerment agenda in Asia and the Pacific by developing an evidence-based diagnostic tool through data integration and analysis. The assignment addresses the challenge of limited job creation relative to the growing youth workforce. The volunteer will contribute to identifying and documenting relevant policies, programs, and partnerships by synthesizing quantitative and qualitative data, assessing data sources, and developing analytical dimensions to evaluate youth employment conditions across the region, ultimately informing strategies for more inclusive and productive employment opportunities.

Responsibilities

The Online Volunteer will support UNDP's youth employment and economic empowerment initiatives in Asia and the Pacific. Key responsibilities include identifying, compiling, and organizing approximately 25-30 quantitative and qualitative datasets related to the Jobs4Prosperity agenda. The volunteer will assess the scope, methodology, coverage, strengths, limitations, and relevance of these datasets and indicators. Analysis and synthesis of information across sources will be required to identify relationships, complementarities, overlaps, and gaps. The role involves supporting the development of diagnostic indicators and analytical dimensions for assessing Jobs4Prosperity conditions, enabling both snapshot and longitudinal analysis. Additionally, the volunteer will maintain a structured Excel sheet for record-keeping and prepare two pages of analytical outputs with two data visualizations highlighting key findings.

Work Experience

Required experience includes a background in data analysis, social sciences, economics, public policy, or international development. Familiarity with the Asia-Pacific region and diverse country contexts is important. Strong quantitative skills and experience with multiple data sources are necessary. Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets is required, with familiarity in Python or R being advantageous. Experience in integrating and harmonizing datasets across different indicators, definitions, countries, and time periods is also needed.

Skills

Key skills include strong quantitative analysis, data integration and harmonization, proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets, and familiarity with data processing tools like Python or R. The volunteer must possess strong written communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Understanding of the Asia-Pacific region and its data landscape is beneficial. Competencies in data science, information management, statistics, and record processing are valued.
