Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, supporting countries in achieving sustainable development. UNDP Rwanda focuses on digital transformation and health innovation, aligning with national strategies. The YouthConnekt platform, a partnership between Rwanda's Ministry of Youth and Arts and UNDP, aims to connect young innovators and address youth employment and entrepreneurship challenges. The upcoming YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2026 in Kigali will focus on actionable outcomes and progress tracking.

Job Purpose

This role supports the YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2026 by creating engaging social media content to explain the summit's thematic tracks and outcomes. The objective is to communicate complex information in plain language for young audiences across Africa and the diaspora. The volunteer will contribute to a communication strategy that emphasizes discussions, agreements, and follow-up actions, rather than just event promotion. This involves developing content calendars, drafting posts, producing real-time updates during the summit, and creating follow-up content on progress, ensuring clear and factual communication reviewed by the team.

Responsibilities

The Online Volunteer will create social media content for the YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2026 under the supervision of UNDP Rwanda and the YouthConnekt Africa communications team. Responsibilities include developing and adhering to a content calendar, drafting 3-5 posts weekly explaining thematic tracks and highlights, and producing real-time content during the summit (quotes, summaries, video captions). Post-summit, the volunteer will translate confirmed outcomes into plain-language content and support follow-up on progress. Additionally, they will monitor comments, flag recurring themes, suggest responses, submit weekly reports on engagement metrics, and attend virtual check-ins. All content requires review before publication.

Work Experience

Proven experience in creating social media content, preferably for a cause, campaign, or organization, is required. The ability to simplify policy or technical topics for a youth audience is necessary. Familiarity with platform analytics and tools like Canva or CapCut is beneficial. Strong writing skills and attention to accuracy are important.

Skills

Key skills include digital and social media content creation, strong writing and communication abilities, and attention to accuracy. The role requires the ability to explain complex topics simply for a youth audience and familiarity with social media analytics and relevant tools. Knowledge of African youth issues (trade, jobs, climate, creative economy, health) and experience in event organization or cultural fields are considered assets.
