Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, working in 166 countries to help people build a better life. In Niger, UNDP supports efforts towards inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development, strengthening governance, community resilience, and achieving Sustainable Development Goals. To showcase results and the impact of its interventions, UNDP Niger regularly produces audiovisual and photographic content.

Job Purpose

This role aims to enhance UNDP Niger's audiovisual production capabilities by recruiting a Video/Photographer UN Volunteer. The volunteer will be responsible for the professional design, production, editing, and dissemination of visual content. The primary objective is to create high-quality photographic and audiovisual materials that document, highlight, and promote UNDP Niger's programs, projects, results, and initiatives. The volunteer will play a key role in storytelling, capturing the impact of interventions, and ensuring content aligns with principles of dignity, ethics, inclusion, diversity, and protection of individuals, thereby strengthening UNDP's digital communication and institutional storytelling.

Responsibilities

The Video/Photographer UN Volunteer will be responsible for video production, including conceptualizing and producing various video types (institutional, promotional, documentary, short-form), filming activities and field missions, creating success stories and testimonials, conducting interviews, and ensuring technical quality in sound and lighting. Responsibilities also include video editing, color grading, integrating graphic elements, and producing formats optimized for digital platforms and social media. In photography, the volunteer will conduct photo reports, produce portraits and activity-based images, document project results, and manage photo archives. The role involves visual storytelling, identifying compelling human interest stories, contributing to creative concepts and scripts, and ensuring content reflects inclusion and diversity. Digital communication tasks include adapting content for various platforms, contributing to social media, and producing short content for campaigns. Finally, the volunteer will manage and archive all produced content, ensuring organized storage and metadata documentation.

Work Experience

A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience is required in video production, professional photography, audiovisual reporting, video editing, storytelling, social media content creation, or institutional/development communication. Experience within the UN system, an international NGO, a development organization, or a professional media outlet is an advantage.

Skills

The candidate should possess excellent creative and artistic abilities, a strong sense of visual storytelling, and proficiency in photography and videography. Skills in transforming complex information into accessible visual narratives, attention to detail, quality assurance, and the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple productions simultaneously are essential. Behavioral competencies include creativity, initiative, organization, autonomy, adaptability, teamwork, interpersonal skills, intercultural sensitivity, professionalism, and integrity. Adherence to UN ethical principles in communication, including respect for dignity, consent, child protection, and inclusive representation, is crucial.
