Organizational Context

UN Women is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls globally. In Papua New Guinea (PNG), severe gender inequality persists, marked by high rates of gender-based violence (GBV), limited education, and access to justice. UN Women, through the EU-funded Soim Wokabout Programme, implements the youth-led Sanap Wantaim Campaign to prevent GBV and promote positive behaviour change, utilizing a Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) toolkit.

Job Purpose

This role supports the UN Women's Sanap Wantaim Campaign in Papua New Guinea by proofreading a 68-page Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) manual/toolkit. The primary objective is to ensure the document is clear, accurate, and consistent with programme goals, relevant standards, and principles of gender equality and human rights. The Online Volunteer will contribute to the effective delivery of campaign materials aimed at preventing GBV and fostering positive behaviour change among young people, ultimately supporting the reduction of gender inequality and advancement of SDGs in PNG.

Responsibilities

The Online Volunteer will proofread and edit a 68-page document for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and overall language quality in English. Key duties include ensuring consistency in terminology, writing style, and formatting according to organizational guidelines. The volunteer will review content for clarity, coherence, and logical flow, proposing improvements without altering the original meaning. Responsibilities also involve checking references, footnotes, citations, tables, and annexes for consistency and correct formatting. The volunteer will consult with the project team to clarify content questions and address feedback, ensuring the final document adheres to UN Women's editorial and publication standards.

Work Experience

An excellent command of English with strong proofreading, editing, and grammatical skills is required. Experience reviewing manuals, toolkits, reports, or similar publications is desirable. Familiarity with gender-based violence (GBV), gender equality, disability inclusion, human rights, or behaviour change communication (BCC) is an asset.

Skills

Strong English language proficiency, including excellent proofreading, editing, and grammatical skills. Competencies in communication, advocacy, and public information are desirable. Expertise in gender equality, women's rights, writing, and proofreading is beneficial. Ability to ensure clear, consistent, and gender-sensitive language is also valued.
