Organizational Context

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is the lead UN agency dedicated to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled, with a strong focus on including persons with disabilities. Operating in approximately 150 countries, UNFPA drives equitable progress by ensuring sustainable financing for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The agency champions innovative approaches and partnerships to reach marginalized populations, including individuals with disabilities, accelerating the achievement of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) agenda.

Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Programme Specialist for Disability Inclusion in the Asia-Pacific region, three Online Volunteers will significantly contribute to UNFPA's regional knowledge management and disability-inclusive programming efforts. By systematically reviewing and consolidating information on disability inclusion initiatives across the region, volunteers will build a valuable repository of knowledge, evidence, and best practices. This resource will enhance the accessibility of country-level achievements and effective approaches for UNFPA Country Offices, enabling them to learn from and adapt successful strategies to their specific contexts. This cross-country knowledge-sharing initiative is crucial for advancing disability inclusion across Asia and the Pacific, supporting UNFPA's commitment to SRHR, equality, and the inclusion of all marginalized populations.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Programme Specialist for Disability Inclusion in the Asia-Pacific region, Online Volunteers will support UNFPA's regional knowledge management by reviewing and consolidating information on disability inclusion initiatives. Key duties include analyzing submitted reports from the Asia-Pacific Regional Office (APRO) and UNFPA Country Offices, systematically consolidating data and achievements aligned with UNFPA outcomes. Volunteers will liaise with Country Offices and technical colleagues to clarify project details and gather missing information, ensuring accurate representation of regional initiatives. They will also conduct online research to identify and capture undocumented disability inclusion activities in countries that have not submitted reports. A significant responsibility involves designing, populating, and maintaining a comprehensive database and visual mapping system to track reporting status, project outcomes, and good practices across the Asia-Pacific region. Participation in virtual coordination or review meetings with UNFPA may also be required.

Work Experience

Candidates should possess experience in desk research, literature reviews, information management, data consolidation, or report writing. Strong analytical and organizational skills are crucial for extracting and presenting information accurately. Familiarity with spreadsheets, databases, or data visualization and mapping tools is required. An interest in disability inclusion, human rights, gender equality, and inclusive development is essential. Experience with disability-inclusive programming in international development or humanitarian contexts is considered an asset.

Skills

Key competencies include strong analytical and organizational skills, effective written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to summarize complex information. Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, and data visualization/mapping tools is necessary. A genuine passion for disability inclusion, human rights, gender equality, and inclusive development is highly valued. Experience in desk research, information management, and report writing is also important.
