Organizational Context

UNFPA has been active in Yemen since the early 1970s, shifting its focus to humanitarian response following a Level 3 emergency declaration in 2015. The agency works with partners to meet reproductive health needs, protect women and girls from gender-based violence, and fulfill young people's potential. In Yemen, UNFPA leads the inter-agency Rapid Response Mechanism, delivering life-saving aid to displaced families affected by conflict and climate-induced disasters. This role supports the mechanism by managing data and information systems.

Job Purpose

This assignment supports UNFPA's mission to ensure every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled, particularly in the context of Yemen's complex humanitarian crisis. The role contributes to the effective coordination of reproductive health (RH) activities, enhances the collection and analysis of RH data, and strengthens health information systems. By improving these areas, the assignment ensures that response activities are evidence-based, well-coordinated, and effectively address the needs of women and girls affected by conflict and displacement. The position is crucial for the functioning of the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM), ensuring timely delivery of essential aid and information.

Responsibilities

The National UN Volunteer will support the implementation of reproductive health programs, including the Minimum Initial Services Package (MISP) and Clinical Management of Rape (CMR), by following up with implementing partners, providing technical assistance, and coordinating efforts. The role involves supporting the functionality of the RH working group at national and subnational levels, ensuring partner engagement, service mapping, and updating partner information (4W). The volunteer will assist in timely implementation of SRHR humanitarian work plans, identify and address barriers, and actively participate in relevant cluster and working group meetings to integrate RH needs into humanitarian response plans. Responsibilities also include supporting rapid and in-depth assessments, developing and revising training materials, and facilitating training sessions on MISP and CMR. The role requires assisting in developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks, tracking project progress, identifying challenges, and documenting achievements. Data analysis, quality control, and maintaining health information systems for the SRH Working Group are key duties. The volunteer will also assist in preparing situation reports and providing other requested assistance.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of professional field experience is required, specifically in managing emergency registration tracking systems, humanitarian information pipelines, or mobile data applications. Experience with mobile data environments like KoboToolbox and ODK, and relational database systems is essential. Prior experience in cleaning large datasets and generating performance tracking tables or maps is necessary. Strong document management skills, a commitment to data safety and confidentiality, excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills for high-pressure teams, and sound situational security awareness in complex field settings are also required.

Skills

Values include integrity, commitment to UNFPA and the UN system, embracing diversity, and operational resilience. Core competencies involve achieving results responsibly, accountability, technical acumen, analytical and structural thinking, collaborative teamwork, and safe communication. Functional competencies include database and information management, secure management of field registries, KoboToolbox configuration, supporting emergency logistics, and analytical reporting. Expertise areas encompass community development, emergency preparedness, crisis response, communication, advocacy, and public information.
