Online Digital Literacy & TESOL Course Mentor for English Teachers
Organizational Context
Rousto Charity aims to foster social, economic, intellectual, and informational development in Tajikistan, with a focus on empowering youth and women. This project specifically seeks to enhance educational outcomes by providing local English teachers with international pedagogical training. The volunteer's role is crucial in overcoming digital literacy barriers, ensuring the success of the TESOL program and improving teaching standards in the region.
Job Purpose
This assignment serves as a critical component of the "Tajikistan English Educators Capacity Project," aiming to empower regional and rural public school teachers with limited professional development access. The volunteer will act as a vital bridge, guiding 5-6 motivated teachers through a structured online TESOL course and its associated Learning Management System (LMS). The primary goal is to ensure teachers can successfully navigate the platform, complete assignments, and obtain their certification, thereby securing the organization's investment and upgrading local English teaching standards.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will mentor 5-6 English teachers in Tajikistan undertaking an online TESOL course, focusing on digital facilitation rather than content instruction. Responsibilities include leading a digital onboarding walkthrough covering account creation and platform navigation. During the course, the volunteer will assist teachers in locating assignments, understanding grading rubrics, downloading resources, and troubleshooting media playback. They will guide teachers on formatting documents, uploading assignments, and understanding quiz feedback mechanisms. In the final week, the volunteer will support teachers in downloading and verifying their digital TESOL certificates. Communication will occur via Zoom for workshops and Telegram for daily technical support. The volunteer will provide weekly progress updates to the project coordinator.
Work Experience
Experience navigating major Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Coursera, Canvas, or Moodle is required. Proven ability in basic digital troubleshooting (e.g., file upload errors, password resets) and proficiency with virtual collaboration tools (Zoom, Telegram/WhatsApp) are necessary. Prior experience in mentoring, tutoring, digital onboarding, or technical support, especially with adult learners or those with limited tech fluency, is highly desirable.
Skills
Key competencies include exceptional patience, empathy, and clear, accessible communication, avoiding technical jargon. Cross-cultural sensitivity is vital for supporting teachers with potential language barriers or shyness. Expertise in e-learning platforms, basic digital troubleshooting, and virtual collaboration tools is essential. The role also requires skills in community development, education, training, and capacity building.
