Organizational Context

UNICEF, established in 1946, is a permanent UN agency dedicated to improving children's lives through long-term programs in health, nutrition, education, and difficult situations. It mobilizes political will and resources to prioritize children, especially in developing countries. In the Central African Republic (CAR), access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services remains critical, exacerbated by conflict and natural disasters. UNICEF, as the lead agency for the WASH Cluster, supports coordination to ensure an effective humanitarian response.

Job Purpose

This role supports the strategic and operational coordination of the WASH Cluster and the humanitarian response in the Central African Republic. The objective is to ensure an effective, equitable, and high-quality response to the needs of affected populations. The position involves assisting the UNICEF WASH unit in planning and implementing field activities, reporting on cluster meetings, and supporting multi-sectoral WASH assessments. It also includes updating response strategies, strengthening collaboration with national authorities and partners, and participating in field missions and supervision.

Responsibilities

The WASH Assistant will support the UNICEF WASH section in planning and implementing field activities, preparing and reporting on WASH Cluster meetings, and assisting in multi-sectoral WASH assessments. Key duties include initiating and updating Cluster strategies and response plans, strengthening collaboration with national authorities, NGOs, UN agencies, and donors, and participating in field missions and intervention supervision. The role involves identifying and reporting implementation constraints, supporting communication and community mobilization, documenting best practices, and ensuring regular performance monitoring and reporting of the Cluster. The Assistant will also participate in the humanitarian response and gain knowledge of UNICEF's broader programs (education, health, protection, nutrition).
