Organizational Context

UNICEF has been active in Djibouti since 1981, working with partners to improve the future for children. In Obock, UNICEF's humanitarian response requires significant documentation of activities, results, and the realities faced by children and youth. This is crucial for advocacy, reporting, and maintaining a consistent presence on social media platforms, especially among the younger demographic. The role emphasizes field presence and content production, requiring close collaboration and adherence to ethical principles.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this assignment is to strengthen the production and dissemination of visual content for UNICEF's activities in Obock. The volunteer will ensure regular photo and video coverage of field operations, events, and campaigns to make visible the experiences of children and young people and to highlight the achievements made with national and humanitarian partners. This role is essential for documenting the ongoing humanitarian response, informing the public, particularly youth who are active on social media, and building a well-documented archive of visual assets, ensuring all content adheres to strict ethical guidelines and consent protocols.

Responsibilities

The volunteer will be responsible for photographic production, covering activities, field visits, events, and campaigns, capturing portraits, action shots, and contextual images suitable for editorial and social media use, including selection and editing. Video production involves shooting short sequences on location, ensuring clear audio for testimonials, and editing short-form videos (horizontal and vertical) with subtitles and UNICEF branding. Content will be prepared for UNICEF's social media platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram), adapting each piece to the specific format and audience. Responsibilities also include writing captions, short texts, photo descriptions, and video scripts in French, and translating testimonials from local languages. Crucially, the volunteer must systematically obtain informed consent, adhere to UNICEF's ethical guidelines for images of children, and apply anonymization or non-identification rules when necessary, ensuring all content is properly documented, captioned, and archived.

Work Experience

No prior experience is strictly required, but at least one year of relevant experience in photo/video production, social media management, journalism, or a related communication field is desirable. Proficiency in photo and video shooting techniques, editing software (e.g., CapCut, Premiere Rush, Lightroom), and social media platform operations is expected. Experience in content creation for social media, particularly short-form vertical video, is beneficial.

Skills

Key skills include responsibility, integrity, creativity, visual sense, adaptability, flexibility, strong communication and active listening, planning, organization, professionalism, teamwork, self-management, and discretion. Technical skills involve practical photo and video shooting, editing, and social media content preparation. Familiarity with art, design, culture, advocacy, public information, and community development is advantageous.
