Communication humanitaire et communication avec les communautés (SSR/VBG)
Organizational Context
The UNFPA Djibouti Country Office partners with governments, institutions, and civil society to implement its mandate, guided by the Programme of Action of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key focus areas include sexual and reproductive health, human rights, gender equality, and population and development issues. UNFPA provides technical and financial support for population data collection, analysis, and dissemination. The region is experiencing an influx of Yemeni refugees due to the conflict in Yemen, straining already limited health, water, and protection services.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNFPA's response in Obock, Djibouti, by documenting field activities and producing communication materials for communities. The incumbent will create content (images, videos, narratives) for updates, reports, advocacy, and resource mobilization, addressing the lack of on-site communication capacity. A key function is to ensure women and girls are aware of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services through clear, multilingual information adapted for low-literacy populations. The position collaborates with UNICEF and strictly adheres to ethical and safety principles, particularly regarding GBV survivors, ensuring their dignity and confidentiality are paramount.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the UNFPA Djibouti Communications Officer, the UN Community Volunteer will be responsible for photo and video production, including covering UNFPA activities and partner events, selecting and editing images, and shooting and editing short video sequences with correct audio. This includes obtaining necessary filming permits. The role involves collecting testimonials from various stakeholders, writing captions, short texts, field narratives, and video scripts in French, and translating collected testimonies. The volunteer will prepare content for UNFPA Djibouti's digital platforms, adapting it for different formats and audiences, and contribute to inter-agency communication products. Additionally, the volunteer will design and produce simple, multilingual information materials on SRH and GBV services for low-literacy populations, pre-test and update these materials, and report rumors or misinformation. Strict adherence to ethical guidelines, informed consent, and data protection is required, with no identification or questioning of GBV survivors. The volunteer will also support field visits and maintain the photo and video library.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, at least one year of paid or volunteer experience in photo/video production, social media management, journalism, community radio, or a related field is desirable. Practical skills in photo and video shooting, editing software, and social media platforms are beneficial. Sensitivity to gender, SRH, and GBV issues, strong organizational skills, and functional knowledge of office software are also advantageous.
