Organizational Context

The International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA) is a global network of NGOs dedicated to enhancing the principled and effective nature of humanitarian action through collective influence on policy and practice. Operating on humanitarian principles and partnership, ICVA advocates for equitable access to assistance and protection for crisis-affected populations. They promote innovative approaches, evidence-based advocacy, and inclusive multi-stakeholder partnerships to ensure the legitimacy and value of humanitarian work.

Job Purpose

This role supports a joint UNICEF-ICVA review focused on 'localisation' within the context of diminishing humanitarian funding. The project aims to develop practical recommendations for UNICEF's Localisation Strategy by analyzing partnership models, financing, capacity building, and the roles of local and national actors. The volunteer will contribute significantly to the implementation and analysis of a global survey, gathering insights from local and national NGOs, INGOs, UNICEF staff, and other humanitarian stakeholders to inform future strategies and enhance humanitarian response effectiveness.

Responsibilities

The volunteer will support key informant interviews, including planning, coordination, documentation, and synthesis of 10-20 interviews with humanitarian stakeholders. Responsibilities include supporting quantitative analysis of global survey data and qualitative analysis of interview notes and open-ended responses, involving thematic coding and identification of key findings. The role also involves contributing to the preparation of data summaries, charts, tables, and analytical briefs. Expected deliverables include consolidated interview summaries, cleaned survey datasets, quantitative and qualitative analysis outputs with data visualization, and contributions to analytical summaries, presentations, and the final report.

Work Experience

Required experience includes demonstrated proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, experience conducting key informant interviews for research purposes, and strong attention to detail with a focus on data quality assurance. Familiarity with humanitarian action, localisation, NGOs, or international development is also required, alongside excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills in English.

Skills

Key skills include strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis capabilities, experience in conducting key informant interviews, and meticulous attention to detail for data quality assurance. Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills in English are essential. The ability to work independently, meet deadlines in a multicultural environment, and a foundational knowledge of humanitarian action, localisation, NGOs, or international development are also crucial.
