Organizational Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes peace and development globally through volunteerism. UNV partners with organizations to integrate qualified volunteers into development programmes and advocates for the value of volunteerism worldwide. Administered by UNDP, UNV operates in approximately 130 countries, with a field presence in over 80. At the country level, UNV collaborates with UN entities to strategically embed volunteerism into mandate implementation, identifying opportunities where volunteers add unique value to development programmes and peacekeeping missions.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to strengthen the availability of talent source information in Peru within the framework of UNV's actions concerning potential needs related to the El Niño phenomenon in Latin America and the Caribbean. Various events associated with this phenomenon may create demands for technical, community, humanitarian, and operational support across different territories. Having updated information on organizations, institutions, networks, and channels with access to relevant profiles will facilitate a more focused identification and dissemination of future opportunities. The exercise will complement and update existing national mappings, paying attention to professional profiles and context-specific characteristics like territorial knowledge, languages, community experience, and access to specific populations.
Responsibilities
Online Volunteers will support the updating, complementing, and verification of national talent source mappings in Peru, using a UNV-provided template and classification criteria. Responsibilities include reviewing existing mapping information, identifying new relevant organizations and channels, verifying contact information, and registering details on territorial coverage, organization type, and accessible profiles. Volunteers will map universities, technical institutions, professional associations, community and civil society organizations, local governments, risk management entities, and employment services. They will also map organizations of persons with disabilities, indigenous groups, and other networks for prioritized populations, as well as professional networks and relevant dissemination channels. Information on local languages, territorial knowledge, community experience, risk management/humanitarian response experience, and access to specific communities will be recorded. Volunteers will identify gaps in territories or profiles and organize information clearly in the provided tool. Remote support will involve initial guidance, template provision, and virtual follow-up meetings for progress review and consistency assurance.
Work Experience
Required experience includes research, information gathering, desk research, and actor mapping. Candidates should be able to locate, cross-reference, verify, and systematize information using public and digital sources. Proficiency in spreadsheets or basic information management tools is necessary. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines are essential. Good written communication and virtual collaboration skills are also required. Knowledge of the institutional, social, or territorial context of Central American countries is an advantage, as is familiarity with universities, professional associations, community organizations, public entities, or employment platforms.
