Job Purpose

The Fire Marshal Assistant will provide essential, timely, and effective firefighting and rescue operational support to the MONUSCO mission and the surrounding community. This role is critical for ensuring the safety of personnel, aircraft, and mission assets. The incumbent will be responsible for responding to emergencies, conducting fire prevention measures, and maintaining a high state of readiness for crash rescue operations, thereby contributing directly to the mission's operational continuity and security.

Responsibilities

The Fire Marshal Assistant is responsible for ensuring airfield fire safety and responding to aircraft emergencies. Key duties include conducting Emergency Crash Rescue (ECR) operations, leading firefighting teams, and supervising shift activities. The role involves performing routine fire prevention and airfield safety inspections, identifying hazards, and recommending corrective actions. Guidance and supervision are provided for training, inspections, and equipment maintenance to ensure high firefighting readiness and enforcement of fire prevention codes. Responsibilities also include monitoring ECR availability, communicating with emergency personnel, overseeing aircraft start-ups and refueling operations, conducting equipment inventories, and maintaining detailed records and reports on readiness, training, and incidents.

Work Experience

Requires 5 years of relevant experience in conducting firefighting equipment inspections, responding to fire emergencies, operating fire trucks, and supporting emergency response activities including fire prevention checks and evacuations. Experience in aviation firefighting is essential.

Skills

Essential skills include adaptability, flexibility, planning, organizing, and professionalism. Technical expertise in emergency preparedness, crisis response, and transport operations is required. Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a challenging, multicultural environment are also crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer literacy are necessary.
