Organizational Context
UNICEF promotes the rights and well-being of every child, working in 190 countries to support vulnerable children. In Nepal, the Country Office collaborates with government and partners on health, nutrition, education, and child protection. Following a severe flash flood in August 2026, UNICEF is supporting the restoration of essential health services in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, focusing on supply chain management and cold-chain logistics for health commodities.
Job Purpose
This UNV assignment supports UNICEF Nepal's emergency health response to the Bhotekoshi-Rasuwa flood. The Health Emergency Associate Logistician will be based at the District Health Office in Rasuwa or Nuwakot. The role is crucial for strengthening on-the-ground coordination, ensuring the traceability of health supplies, and managing cold-chain logistics for vaccines and essential medicines. The incumbent will work closely with local disaster management committees and UNICEF's emergency team to facilitate the efficient and safe delivery of critical health supplies to flood-affected communities, thereby contributing to the restoration of vital health services.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary on-the-ground focal point for health supply coordination at the District Health Office and Disaster Management Committees. Facilitate the registration and stacking of UNICEF supplies, ensuring clear identification and segregation within warehouses. Maintain accurate tracking systems for all health equipment, supplies, commodities, medicines, and vaccines from receipt to final distribution, ensuring end-to-end traceability and adherence to first-in/expiry-first-out principles. Support cold-chain management for immunizations, including monitoring equipment and coordinating vaccine transport to health facilities. Liaise daily with other sectoral colleagues and the District Health Office to address immediate supply gaps and prioritize dispatches. Support the packing and labelling of supplies for onward transport, ensuring clear UNICEF visibility. Compile and submit regular supply status reports, detailing stock levels, dispatches, distributions, gaps, and constraints. Coordinate health logistics matters with the Health Cluster and UNICEF's field emergency team. Support field distribution planning and conduct monitoring visits to verify receipt and use of supplies. Coordinate activities with local partners and communities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of experience is required, with a preference for at least 2 years of professional experience in health/medical supply chain management, cold-chain/vaccine logistics, warehousing, or emergency logistics. Experience with government supply information management systems or UN/INGO logistics systems is an asset. Familiarity with vaccine cold-chain management and local coordination structures is desirable.
Skills
Professionalism, integrity, teamwork, respect for diversity, commitment to continuous learning, planning and organizing, and strong communication skills are essential. Proficiency in MS Office applications, database management, and office technology is required. Experience in emergency preparedness, crisis response, logistics, and procurement is highly desirable. A genuine commitment to volunteerism and UNICEF's mission is expected.
