English to Arabic Translations for World Food Forum YUNGA Content
Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) aims to transform agri-food systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and life, leaving no one behind. The Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA), hosted by FAO, collaborates with partners to engage youth in sustainable development through educational activities and Challenge Badges. This initiative seeks to expand access to these resources for Arabic-speaking communities, fostering understanding of global sustainability challenges and promoting youth action.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to translate the content of the Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA) website and seven Challenge Badges into Arabic. The goal is to make these educational resources on sustainable development and SDGs accessible to a broader audience in Arabic-speaking regions. By overcoming language barriers, the translations will empower schools, youth groups, educators, and organizations to utilize these materials. This will help young people better understand global sustainability issues, their local impact, and potential actions, thereby strengthening YUNGA's multilingual outreach and contributing to various Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
Six Online Volunteers are sought to translate the YUNGA website content (approx. 10 pages) and seven Challenge Badges (Plastics, Green Cities, Pollinators, Energy, Nutrition, Food Loss and Waste) from English to Arabic. Volunteers will ensure translations are concise, adhere to FAO communication guidelines, and are suitable for the target audience. The workload will be divided among the volunteers, with specific allocations determined at the assignment's start. Guidance on audience and communication standards will be provided. All translated materials remain FAO's intellectual property.
Work Experience
Candidates must be native speakers of Fusha Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic) and fluent in English. Familiarity with technical terms related to education, sustainable development, and the environment is advantageous. Previous translation experience is considered a plus.
Skills
Native proficiency in Fusha Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic) and fluency in English are essential. The ability to produce concise and audience-appropriate translations is required.
