Organizational Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes volunteerism worldwide to contribute to peace and development. UNV encourages its partners to integrate volunteerism into development programmes and mobilizes volunteers. In the context of potential needs related to the El Niño phenomenon in Latin America and the Caribbean, UNV aims to strengthen the availability of talent information in Colombia to facilitate targeted identification and dissemination of future opportunities.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to strengthen the availability of information on talent sources in Colombia, in response to potential needs arising from the El Niño phenomenon. The goal is to update and complement existing national mappings of organizations, institutions, networks, and channels that can provide technical, community, humanitarian, and operational support. By focusing on professional profiles and relevant contextual characteristics such as territorial knowledge, languages, and community experience, the results will contribute to a relevant reference base for UNV to support future mobilization needs in Colombia.
Responsibilities
Online Volunteers will support the updating, complementing, and verification of national talent source mappings using provided templates and classification criteria. Responsibilities include reviewing existing information, identifying new relevant organizations and channels, verifying contact details, and registering data on territorial coverage, organization type, and contact information. Volunteers will map universities, professional associations, community organizations, civil society, local governments, risk management entities, and employment services. They will also map organizations of persons with disabilities, indigenous networks, professional networks, and media channels. Specific data on local languages, territorial knowledge, community experience, risk management, humanitarian response, and access to specific communities will be recorded. Identifying gaps in available sources and organizing information consistently in the UNV tool are also key tasks. The support is remote, with initial guidance and virtual follow-up meetings.
Work Experience
Experience in research, information gathering, desk research, and stakeholder mapping is required. The ability to locate, contrast, verify, and systematize information using public and digital sources is essential. Proficiency in spreadsheets or basic information management tools is necessary. Experience with the institutional, social, or territorial context of Colombia is an advantage. Familiarity with educational institutions, professional associations, community organizations, public entities, or employment platforms is desirable.
Skills
Key skills include research, information gathering, data verification, and systematization. Proficiency in using spreadsheets and basic information management tools is required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines are essential. Good written communication and virtual collaboration skills are necessary. Knowledge of the Colombian context is advantageous. Familiarity with various types of organizations and employment platforms is desirable.
