Organizational Context

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes peace and development globally through volunteerism. Administered by UNDP, UNV integrates motivated volunteers into development programs and advocates for volunteerism's value. Communications is vital for UNV, strengthening partner engagement, advocating for volunteerism, and showcasing results. The communications function connects UNV with diverse audiences, including UN partners, governments, donors, and volunteers, building credibility and inspiring engagement through targeted, values-driven content.

Job Purpose

The Communications Assistant supports UNV's communication strategy implementation at regional and country levels, enhancing the visibility of UN Volunteers and UNV's work locally. This role is crucial for mobilizing UN Volunteers by engaging UN partners and attracting diverse local talent. The position also strengthens UNV's brand visibility and promotes volunteerism within the country. The Assistant will contribute to content production, identifying success stories, creating appealing data-driven products, managing social media, coordinating campaigns, and supporting outreach activities, ensuring all messages are aligned, locally adapted, and strategically disseminated.

Responsibilities

The Communications Assistant supports the implementation of UNV’s communications strategy and marketing products to increase awareness, engagement, and support for volunteerism and UN Volunteers. This includes creating country-specific promotional materials and communication products aligned with corporate guidelines to attract volunteer candidates. The role involves assisting in content generation and adaptation for various platforms, drafting audience-specific content highlighting UN Volunteer contributions, collecting multimedia content, and ensuring brand compliance. The Assistant will support content dissemination through digital and offline channels, manage country-level social media presence, track performance analytics, and contribute to joint communications and field-level storytelling by liaising with UN partners and volunteers to source stories and testimonials. Operational support for communications activities, including logistics for events and basic graphic design, is also required.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of practical and relevant experience in communications and/or public relations at the national or international level is required. Experience in graphic design, content creation, media engagement (including social media), and digital communications is highly desirable. Previous volunteer experience or experience with international organizations is an asset. Proficiency in computer use, office software, design software, and web-based systems is a strong asset.
