UNIC Manama is responsible for promoting public understanding of the United Nations and its priorities across Bahrain, the UAE, and Qatar. It achieves this through strategic media engagement, digital communications, public outreach, and fostering partnerships. The Centre operates in a dynamic environment, seeking to enhance the UN's visibility and impact in the region. This role supports those core functions by providing essential communications and operational assistance.
Job Purpose
The Communications and Operations Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting UNIC Manama's mission to increase public awareness of the UN's work and priorities. The assignment focuses on enhancing communication efforts through content creation, social media management, and multimedia production, while also ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the office. The volunteer will contribute to drafting news articles, managing social media platforms, producing visual content, and providing administrative support. This role is vital for amplifying the UN's message and facilitating effective outreach within Bahrain and the wider region.
Responsibilities
The role involves a significant focus on Communications and Public Information (75%), including content creation for news articles, human-interest stories, and web content in English and Arabic. This includes conducting research, gathering information, and supporting campaign materials. Social media management entails drafting, scheduling, and publishing content, implementing digital campaigns, and monitoring engagement. The assistant will also be involved in photography, videography, and multimedia production, maintaining archives, and supporting website content updates. Additionally, responsibilities include assisting with outreach, visibility, and event support, as well as monitoring media coverage and preparing reports. The remaining 25% of the role is dedicated to Administration and Operations Support, encompassing general administrative assistance, drafting correspondence, maintaining records, scheduling meetings, and providing logistical support for office activities and events.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of experience is required, with a preference for 2 years of relevant experience. This should include demonstrated experience in communications, journalism, social media, public information, or administration. Experience in photography, videography, and content creation is highly desirable, and prior experience in organizing events or providing office support is considered an asset.
Skills
Key competencies include creativity, planning and organizing, and professionalism. Essential skills involve social media management, photography and basic video editing, content writing and editing in both English and Arabic, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. The ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments effectively is also crucial. Expertise areas include communication, advocacy, public information, and administration.
