Child Protection Assistant
Organizational Context
UNICEF's core mission is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, focusing on equity for the most disadvantaged children and families. In Tunisia, UNICEF supports child protection system strengthening through judicial reform, social worker capacity building, and preventing/responding to violence against children. The country faces widespread child violence across homes, schools, and online, with significant psychological and economic impacts. UNICEF Tunisia partners with government and civil society to address this emergency through legal reform, service enhancement, and social norm transformation.
Job Purpose
The Child Protection Assistant will support UNICEF and its national partners in implementing priority interventions against child violence in Tunisia. This involves strengthening awareness campaigns, implementing social and behavioral change (SBC) strategies, and operationalizing national action plans for online and school-based violence. The role also includes supporting the coordination and partnerships with institutional and technical stakeholders, ensuring information sharing, and contributing to the visibility of program results. This volunteer assignment, supported by the Swiss Embassy, aims to enhance youth inclusion, with a focus on young people with disabilities, contributing to the overall child protection efforts in Tunisia.
Responsibilities
The Child Protection Assistant will support the Child Protection Specialist in implementing the child violence prevention and response program. Key duties include: - Logistical and administrative support for program activities like meetings, workshops, and awareness campaigns. - Assisting with communication and social mobilization activities to promote positive behaviors and prevent violence. - Supporting SBC initiatives, including positive parenting and social norm transformation. - Preparing activities related to national action plans on school violence and online child violence. - Liaising with partners for smooth activity implementation. - Monitoring program activities and collecting implementation information. - Preparing meeting minutes, attendance lists, and other documentation. - Compiling and organizing program data and information. - Documenting best practices, lessons learned, and outcomes. - Supporting the preparation of reports, briefs, and presentations. - Exploring innovative digital tools for data management and documentation. - Participating in coordination meetings with partners and facilitating information sharing. - Supporting the preparation of coordination meetings and follow-up on agreed actions. - Contributing to communication efforts by collecting content and preparing materials to highlight program achievements.
Work Experience
Requires 1 month to 1 year of relevant professional experience in child protection or a related field. Experience working with civil society or UN organizations is an asset, as is experience in social work or project management.
