Interpretation of UNHCR Global Consultations with NGOs (English/Arabic)

Job Purpose
This role supports the 2026 UNHCR Global Consultations with NGOs, focusing on "Safeguarding the Right to Asylum and Strengthening Protection." The online event, co-organized by UNHCR and ICVA, will convene NGOs, civil society organizations, refugee-led groups, and other stakeholders. The interpreter's primary purpose is to facilitate meaningful participation by ensuring seamless communication between English-speaking participants and those communicating in Arabic. This contribution is vital for enabling effective exchange of experiences, identification of priorities, and development of recommendations to enhance protection and uphold the right to seek asylum.
Responsibilities
Online Volunteers will provide real-time interpretation during the 2026 Global Consultations with NGOs, ensuring effective communication between English and Arabic speakers. Key duties include attending briefings, reviewing session materials, completing onboarding and confidentiality agreements, and participating in technical tests and rehearsals. Volunteers will familiarize themselves with terminology related to refugee protection, asylum, and civil society engagement. They will join assigned sessions in advance for technical checks, provide accurate and impartial interpretation during sessions, coordinate with partner interpreters, and promptly report any technical or terminology issues. Post-session feedback is also required. This role directly contributes to reducing language barriers and fostering inclusive participation.
Work Experience
Candidates must be fluent in English and Arabic. Familiarity with technical terms related to refugees, civil society, and international organizations is advantageous. Previous interpretation and translation experience is considered an asset.
