Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been established in Benin since 1962, partnering with the government to implement the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP Benin focuses on inclusive economic growth, democracy, rule of law, and good governance. The current program cycle emphasizes climate change resilience, particularly in vulnerable agricultural areas facing soil degradation, floods, and food insecurity. The Integrated Project for Strengthening Climate Resilience in Vulnerable and Border Communities (PIRRCF) aims to enhance rural community resilience through climate-smart agriculture systems.
Job Purpose
This role serves as a local liaison for the Integrated Project for Strengthening Climate Resilience in Vulnerable and Border Communities (PIRRCF) in Benin. The objective is to support the project's implementation within the designated communes, working closely with various partners and stakeholders. The volunteer will facilitate capacity building for identified clusters, support the implementation of climate-resilient agricultural practices, and assist in establishing integrated, stable, and sustainable production systems for young people and women entrepreneurs. The position also involves supporting the development and use of local materials for resilient infrastructure and housing, contributing to the project's overall goal of enhancing climate resilience and sustainable development.
Responsibilities
The National UN Volunteer will act as a local project liaison, reporting to the Project Coordinator and supervised by the Programme Officer for Integrated and Sustainable Solutions. Key responsibilities include: Conducting diagnostics and developing capacity-building plans for identified clusters. Ensuring the implementation of these plans in collaboration with specialized agricultural structures. Supporting the development and monitoring of cluster activities. Assisting in establishing integrated and sustainable production systems for target youth and women entrepreneurs. Organizing training on resilient production techniques and processing of agricultural and livestock by-products. Facilitating the identification, establishment, and maintenance of community infrastructure. Collecting data through monitoring forms and contributing to project impact databases. Supporting the private sector in producing and manufacturing local materials for resilient construction. Participating in local community meetings and reporting on project activities. Contributing to knowledge management and capitalization of project achievements.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 year of relevant national experience in agribusiness, market analysis, business management, or enterprise development is required. Experience with agricultural entrepreneurship issues is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is necessary. Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GPS handling is an asset. Familiarity with youth employment, agricultural diversification, and the Beninese institutional environment is desirable.
