This role supports UNICEF's emergency response in Sudan's Southern Region.

Job Purpose

Under the guidance of the Emergency Specialist, the Emergency Programme Officer will support the emergency response across Sudan's Southern Region. This involves ensuring effective emergency response mechanisms, and overseeing the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health, nutrition, WASH, education, child protection, and Programme Management & Evaluation (PME) sections, as well as related operations. The role also entails supporting coordination efforts with all relevant staff within the Southern Area and across Sudan as needed, contributing to a cohesive and effective humanitarian response.

Responsibilities

Provide field-level technical support to partners in WASH, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, and Social & Behavioural Change (SBC). Participate in needs assessments to identify gaps and inform UNICEF's priorities, offering expertise for emergency response planning during crises. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sectoral interventions to improve child outcomes. Contribute to progress reports, briefings, and other required documentation. Coordinate efforts with UN agencies, local stakeholders, NGOs, and community organizations to maximize impact. Support the capacity building of local partners as part of the localization strategy. Manage and analyze field data in coordination with the Programme Coordinator to support evidence-based programming, presenting findings to stakeholders. Provide input for funding proposals and attend donor coordination meetings. Facilitate community consultations for program design, implementation, and monitoring, ensuring cultural relevance and sustainability. Undertake field travel and support additional tasks as assigned.

Work Experience

Requires 3 years of relevant experience in supporting humanitarian or emergency response programs. This includes experience in program implementation, monitoring, reporting, assessments, and coordination with government, NGOs, UN agencies, and local partners. Experience in complex or emergency settings is highly desirable. Proficiency in MS Office, database management, and strong computer literacy are essential. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines is also required.
