The Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, through its Regional Hub on Gender, Environment, and Climate Justice, works to integrate gender perspectives into environmental and climate policies across Latin America and the Caribbean. This initiative aims to foster more just and effective climate action by strengthening institutional capacities and incorporating gender and intersectionality into public policies.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to support UN Women's Regional Hub on Gender, Environment, and Climate Justice by translating six technical documents from Spanish to French. These documents, developed in Chile, analyze gender gaps and opportunities within climate change policies across various sectors. The purpose is to facilitate the international dissemination of this knowledge, providing evidence and recommendations for public institutions and stakeholders to better integrate gender perspectives into climate policy planning and implementation. The role contributes to UN Women's broader mission of advancing gender equality and making the Sustainable Development Goals a reality.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will translate and technically review six specialized documents on gender and climate change policies from Spanish to French. Working collaboratively in a team of two, each volunteer will translate three documents and review the other's translations. The process involves a three-week cycle per document: initial translation, cross-review focusing on linguistic, technical, and conceptual accuracy, peer feedback for resolving terminology and editorial issues, and final adjustments. Volunteers will ensure conceptual accuracy, terminological consistency, fidelity to the original content, and adherence to UN Women's institutional language. Special attention will be given to translating concepts related to gender, climate change, public policy, and sustainable development, as well as ensuring logical organization and appropriate presentation of technical elements. The use of AI and translation tools is permitted but requires thorough validation and editing.
Work Experience
Demonstrable experience in translating and reviewing technical, academic, or institutional documents is required. Experience with assisted translation tools or AI for translation support, editing/style correction of technical publications, and background in gender equality, climate change, public policy, or sustainable development are desirable.

Excellent written Spanish and French language proficiency. Ability to translate and review complex technical documents accurately. Skill in identifying and resolving terminology, conceptual coherence, style, and linguistic precision issues. Familiarity with gender equality, climate change, and sustainable development concepts is desirable. Knowledge of UN terminology is a plus.
