Organizational Context
UN Women is the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. Its Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, through its Regional Hub on Gender, Environment, and Climate Justice, works to strengthen the integration of gender perspectives into environmental and climate policies across Latin America and the Caribbean. The Hub aims to foster more just and effective climate action by enhancing institutional capacities and promoting gender-responsive policies.
Job Purpose
This role supports UN Women's Regional Hub by translating and reviewing six technical documents on gender and climate change policies developed in Chile. The objective is to facilitate the international dissemination of this knowledge. The volunteer will work collaboratively in a team of two, translating three documents and reviewing three others. This process involves translation, cross-review, peer feedback, and final adjustments to ensure accuracy, conceptual clarity, and adherence to UN Women's institutional language and standards, contributing to more inclusive climate action.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will translate and review six specialized technical documents from Spanish to English, focusing on gender equality and climate change policies in Chile. This involves a collaborative process with another volunteer, where each person translates three documents and reviews the other's work. The workflow includes a week for translation, a week for cross-review focusing on linguistic, technical, and conceptual accuracy, followed by peer feedback to resolve issues and ensure consistency. Final adjustments will be made to produce polished versions. Support may be provided by AI tools, but volunteers are responsible for thorough validation and editing to ensure conceptual precision, terminological consistency, and adherence to UN Women's institutional language and standards, particularly concerning gender, climate change, and sustainable development concepts.
Work Experience
Demonstrable experience in translating and reviewing technical, academic, or institutional documents is required. Experience with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools or AI translation tools is desirable, as is experience in editing or style correction of technical publications. Familiarity with gender equality, climate change, public policy, or sustainable development is also desirable.
Skills
Excellent written command of Spanish and English. Ability to translate and review complex technical documents accurately, maintaining original meaning. Skill in identifying and resolving issues related to terminology, conceptual coherence, style, and syntax. Familiarity with gender, climate change, and sustainable development terminology is beneficial. Proficiency in using translation support tools is desirable.
