UNICEF Sudan is dedicated to promoting equitable development and safeguarding the rights of all children, especially those affected by conflict and natural disasters. The agency implements integrated programs in Health, Nutrition, WASH, Education, and Child Protection, supported by cross-cutting areas like Social Behavior Change and evidence generation. To enhance effectiveness, UNICEF Sudan decentralizes program delivery, strengthens field operations, and expands community engagement through five Area Offices, collaborating closely with government, NGOs, and CBOs.
Job Purpose
The Monitoring Officer will support UNICEF Sudan's overarching goal of promoting equitable development and safeguarding children's rights. This role is crucial for enhancing program implementation effectiveness and accelerating results by strengthening field-level operations and community engagement. The incumbent will provide professional expertise and assistance in monitoring UNICEF-supported projects, assessing local conditions, and tracking inputs, delivery, and utilization. This includes supporting data collection, analysis, and quality assurance of reports to ensure evidence-based decision-making and effective humanitarian responses, contributing directly to the well-being of children across Sudan.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Monitoring Specialist, the Monitoring Officer will conduct monitoring visits to UNICEF project sites to assess local conditions and monitor UNICEF inputs, delivery, and utilization. Responsibilities include supporting systematic monitoring of UNICEF-supported programs implemented by government counterparts and partners, enabling tracking of activities and measurement of progress. The role involves assisting in timely data collection, analysis, and ensuring data availability for evidence-based decision-making. The officer will support the utilization and rollout of monitoring systems, including data collection, reporting, and quality assurance. They will also coordinate with Field Offices and Third-Party Monitoring teams, strengthen information generation on affected populations in emergency contexts, and support the development of monitoring dashboards. Additionally, the role includes conducting training sessions for staff and partners on monitoring tools and systems.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of proven experience in program monitoring and/or data management/analysis. Essential skills include excellent data collection, analysis, and interpretation; proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, statistical software); strong organizational and time management skills; and excellent written and oral communication. Experience in complex environments and adaptability to diverse cultures are also important.
