Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Uganda supports the UN Resident Coordinator and coordinates the UN Country Team's engagement with the Government, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). This role is crucial for strengthening coordination, information management, reporting, and knowledge management within the RCO. The assignment aims to enhance the RCO's capacity and that of UN agencies in humanitarian and development information management, planning, and reporting to support strategic decision-making in Kampala.
Job Purpose
This UN Volunteer assignment aims to bolster the coordination, information management, reporting, and knowledge management functions within the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Uganda. The role will support the RCO in effectively coordinating the UN Country Team (UNCT) and enhancing inter-agency capacity in humanitarian and development information management, planning, and reporting. By contributing to data analytics and dissemination, the UN Volunteer will inform strategic decision-making. The assignment also involves producing analytical and communication products, improving knowledge management practices, and facilitating information sharing among UN entities and external partners.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support and strengthen the overall coordination functions of the UN RCO, contributing to background materials for strategic discussions and partner engagements. Tasks include assisting in the preparation and documentation for meetings, events, and high-level visits, and tracking action points from coordination mechanisms. In information management, reporting, and knowledge management, the volunteer will collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify trends, create dashboards (PowerBI, Tableau), and produce analytical reports. Responsibilities also include designing and maintaining databases, managing geographical data, developing maps and infographics, and supporting monitoring and evaluation processes. The role involves drafting information products for external stakeholders and contributing to dissemination plans. Communication support includes elaborating visibility products on UN program impact, creating knowledge products like best practices and success stories, and assisting with situation overviews and briefing packs. The volunteer will also support knowledge management systems, facilitate internal and external knowledge sharing, and contribute to developing standardized tools for information sharing and reporting.
Work Experience
While no prior experience is strictly required, a demonstrated interest or experience in data management, database administration, GIS, or situation analysis, preferably in a humanitarian or development setting, is beneficial. Experience with development and humanitarian data, proficiency in data visualization software (PowerBI, Tableau), familiarity with mobile data collection platforms (KoBoToolbox, ODK), and knowledge of monitoring and evaluation practices are advantageous. Strong analytical and reporting skills, advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, and solid computer literacy are essential. Knowledge of mapping software (ArcGIS, QGIS) is highly desirable.
