Job Purpose
The Project Coordinator will provide leadership, coordination, and quality assurance for the implementation of disaster risk reduction projects across Latin America and the Caribbean. This role involves ensuring coherence across subregional activities and alignment with UNDRR, EW4ALL, and EU-LAC MoU priorities. The coordinator will manage project planning, implementation, and financial aspects, acting as a key liaison with partners such as DG-ECHO, UN agencies, and other humanitarian actors. The position requires guiding quality assurance of risk assessments and knowledge products, supporting UN Country Teams, and contributing to disaster preparedness and early action strategies.
Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator will lead overall project planning, implementation, monitoring, and financial management, ensuring coherence across subregional workstreams and alignment with project indicators. Responsibilities include coordinating contributions to risk knowledge products like RAR and country risk profiles. The role involves serving as the primary liaison with key partners including DG-ECHO, IGOs, UN agencies, and ECHO-funded partners, and leading EU-LAC MoU coordination and high-level dialogues. The coordinator will guide quality assurance for risk assessments, MHEWS assessments, and knowledge products, and provide support to UN Country Teams and Resident Coordinator's Offices. Additionally, the role entails gathering and producing progress reports, ensuring compliance with monitoring requirements, leading coordination meetings, and guaranteeing project visibility through various communication channels.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in project management is required, with at least five years focused on disaster risk reduction, humanitarian action, preparedness, or resilience. Proven experience leading multi-country or regional programs is essential. Strong coordination, stakeholder engagement, and excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary. Experience working effectively in challenging and multicultural environments is also required.
